Hastings resident James left Kings College London in July but has been unable to find work:

 

“It’s a real struggle. I’m applying all the time but there are so many applicants for very few positions. All my friends seem to be in the same situation and I can’t even find an unpaid internship. Nabilah Khan has struggled to find work since leaving uni

South East MEP Peter Skinner is backing Labour’s call in parliament for action to tackle youth unemployment.

 

Unemployment in Britain is rising and has reached its highest level in 17 years. In the South East region, 41,100 18-24 year olds are out of work.

 

“In the last nine months the UK economy has flatlined. This gives very little hope to those tens of thousands of young people in the South East who are without work. The Tory-led Government’s policies are hurting but not working.”

UK Universities are facing their biggest fall in applications for more than 30 years.

 
Official UCAS figures released yesterday show that university applications from South East students have dropped by over 8% compared to the same point last year. The majority of applications to date have been to Oxford, Cambridge and to the Medicine, Veterinary and Dentistry courses.

Peter with John Evans

Peter is joining disability campaigners in their fight against Government Cuts that could leave disabled people trapped in their homes.

 

Yesterday he met with John Evans, a disability campaigner from Hampshire, to discuss the threat posed by the cuts to essential services and benefits.

 

John Evans made history 25 years ago when he moved out of residential care into his own flat. He was left badly injured after an accident aged 25.
